Any one use RO water for there beads

I have a lot of beads in my coolerdors and was wondering if anyone knows if reverse osmosis water can be used instead of distilled. Just wanted to ask because I am buying an RO system soon.

Yes I have a reef tank so I use a RO/DI system for my beads and havent had any problems. RO/DI water should be better than distilled depending on how good of a ro/di system you buy

Reverse Osmosis (RO) removes a high percentage (not all) of the minerals, nitrates, and phosphates, but not silicates.

Although not as pure as distilled, it can be used without worry.

RO is most often more pure than Distilled, depending on level of equipment. Given my knowledge in the industry, I would almost always choose RO vs. distilled.

That may help this discussion, yet again.
I have let my membership in the WQA lapse, but it can be a good place to look if you are looking for information.

Ahhh I was lied to! Damn engineers here always pulling my leg :r

Well, double distilled vs. Thin Film Composite membrane vs. garden variety distilled vs. TFC-HR membranes...
Short answer is uh...

yep. You can use RO or distilled. RO is actually easier to buy because Aquafina is available at any gas station.

I have used RO from my lab at school since the beginning without any worries... Graduated & running out, so I will have to start using something else.

If you use RO followed by charcoal it's about as pure as it can get. RO/DI then charcoal is usually more pure than distilled. You can test for dissolved solids in water by putting some in a large, clean metal spoon and carefully evaporating it away. There should be no visible residue. That would be fine for the beads.

I have a TDS monitor if anyone would like me to test certain water...

I do know that distilled has more TDS than my RO/DI unit but then again my unit is pumping 0 TDS water

Purity is not just TDS because that won't pick up solvents. But beads probably don't care about anything but TDS. Old RO filters start failing and DI cartridges get saturated. Charcoal gets old. Otherwise RO is great and RO/DI is unbeatable. I probably don't change my stuff often enough but it is always better than tap water.
