Band off if I am public, it's poor taste to show off what I am smoking, and/or belittling to fellow smoker whom might not have as good a cigar as mine.

most of mine don't have bands - The ones that do - the band comes off when I smoke it - I keep the band if it's a brand that I have not smoked before.

When I'm at home I take off the band about half way through the smoke.

In public I always take it off (the band that is) before I fire it up.

I leave the band on so that ir comes off more smoothly but it also is part of the smoking experiance. It is the identity of the cigar and as you smoke it you can converse with yourself or others on it and it paints the mental image of what you were smoking for the next time and for recalling memories. Also, it serves as a great holding point on the cigar, of where I so gently place my fingers to caress my stick. You got to leave it on for the whole experiance. Otherwise when it is off, it's just like every other stick: round, long, and dark...

Thanks for reviving this thread, pretty interesting read.

Personally, I like mine nude.

:tpd: Ditto.

If it comes off easy, I'll take it off right away. If it is stuck I wait until it is loose enough to slip off or the glue softens.

I like to take it off before lighting because removal during the smoke usually leads to ash in my keyboard.

As I am sure Yogi would say "I don't take it off till I take it off".

If I can get the band off without it sticking to the cigar, it comes off before lighting. Otherwise it comes off when it is no longer stuck to the cigar. Paul

I heard somewhere that the original reason for the band was to keep the upper class from yellowing there fingers so it is as simple as that if you don't want to yellow your fingers then leave it on it was only later that the bands were used for advertising and decoration. Well hope this helps

I remove mine and have been putting them in a goldfish jar. Once I fill it up I'll have a "guess how many bands" contest.
