Candella wraper (the green one)

Why is the leaf still green? I have yet to try one, but since I am used to seeing brownish colors for off the plant leaves I am having a little some trepidations.

Candela leaves are only dried for a few days and are not allowed to ferment. As such, they retain the natural green hue.

They have a very sweet, grassy taste. They're worth a try, but are definitely not for everyone. These were very big in the 60s and 70s.

So they use a preservative to keep it green? Or will it brown up in my humidor if I leave it there for a year?

I bought two sticks since it's said not to judge a cigar on one stick. I smoked one at lunch. It was not too happy with it (Fuente Candella). To me it tastes like a very young cigar. It also had a taste of what I imagine chlorophil would taste like. But that might be the taste it is meant to have. I'll smoke the other tonight, if I change my opinion I'll be sure to update this thread.

(Fuente Candella).

Was it an 858?

From what I gather, they seem to be the cream of the crop when it comes to candela wrapped cigars. I don't care much for the candela wrappers, myself, and it certainly sounds like the same can be said of you.

Sounds about right... I'd describe the flavor as vegetal, maybe. I have to be in the right mood for one.

There are some reviews on Candelas in the NC forum. I have smoked several, and found that in general a Candela wrapper equates to a mild - almost bland - cigar. I have a few Candelas in the humi, dont know if I will be getting any more.

The Graycliff Emerald series is an exception to this rule, some folks on CS swear by this green flavor bomb!

I have a couple Camacho Candella Robustos sitting in my humidor right now that I am yet to try. From what I gather they are supposed to be on the fuller side of the candellas out there, with a hint of that chlorophyll flavour mentioned earlier. I'll have to write up a review when I get around to smoking one.
