Could your lighter survive this?

My el cheapo Walmart Ronson has survived this and also being dropped into a glass of beer. It is nice when a lighter is tougher than expected. Just bought Dupont on the sale and am eager to get it.

Wow! That's great! Mine is due to arrive tonight.

Kind of reminds me of that story they tell about Tilley hats. Apparently an elephant keeper had his hat snatched off his head and eaten by an elephant... three times! (The same hat! Are you all with me here?) Ewww! I think this says as much about the guy's faith in his washing machine as it does about a Tilley hat.

I wash bic lighters weekly.. and the cheap torch I use when I leave the house has been washed 3 times.. give them time to dry and everyone has worked perfectly..
:tpd:
Although I must thank you for the good read,
going through the wash isn't really a testament to the quality of a lighter.

It's just water.

I don't have an Xtend
but I've seen even my less than $0.99 Bic lighters
go through the wash many many times
and they work as soon as they are dry.
:tu

Well, I have $3 Ronsons in each of my coats, every bedroom, every friends house, in each car, and a few pants. Never been without a working lighter, even if a few get washed. No stress if it happens, or I lose one, etc. :tu

After managing to unwrap them--and my arm--from what I'm calling the Auger of Death, I pulled out the Xtend and it was SOAKED. Suds and all.

When you open your washer, there should be a sign that says

"Do not play in or around nor reach inside Auger of Death while it's running."

or something along those lines. :ss You know, as a warning.

I have heard of them surviving a full wash cycle and dryer. Great lighters!!!:tu

Not to be a spoil sport here, but my $3 tiger lighter has done the same.

It's nowhere near the quality of the dupont, but it definitely passes the washing machine test.

Summary: get an Xtend and don't look back :D

Great advice!!!! I just had to replace my x-tend with a new one. My first x-tend is currently in hiding. I didnt hesitate...... now if that other lighter will just show up.

My lighter could probably not survive that, but I use Ronson Jetlite's as my lighter of choice. Although, my keyless entry clicker has survived being washed and dried multiple times, and still works :D

My Ronson has survived the washer a few times... :ss

My z-insert has survived the Washer AND Dryer twice... You think I would have learned the first time. I am amazed it didn't blow up, but I caught it both times in the dryer when it fell out and started clanking loudly, so I guess it never got too hot. It maybe ran 20 minutes in the dryer

I've been using my Xtend for two years and only have good things to say about it. It's good to know that I don't have to worry very much if I forget to take it out of my pocket.:ss

I've been largely happy with my ST Dupont Xtend; aside from some testiness in cold weather/air, when it doesn't like to fire, it's been the most consistent and appealing lighter I've used. Nice to look at, easy lighting action, and a large tank.

While preparing to head out the door yesterday afternoon to herf with the guys, I was starting to pack my gear: lighter, Palio, cell phone, keys, etc. Just before I head out the door, I see a huge taco grease stain on my pants. "What would the guys think of me if I showed up looking like the Taco Bell dog just splooged all over my pants?!" I quickly changed my pants, and tossed the stained ones in the wash, which my gf had just started.

Halfway out the door, I do a quick check of my pockets:

*Palio - check
*cell phone - check
*keys - check
*wallet - check
*lighter - .... Lighter? .... LIGHTER?

:c

I dashed out to the washer only to find that the agitator had already pulled them under to the bottom of the washer. After managing to unwrap them--and my arm--from what I'm calling the Auger of Death, I pulled out the Xtend and it was SOAKED. Suds and all.

:c :gn

I found my gf's hairdryer and hit that Xtend with everything it had, feeling pretty sure I would still be buying another Xtend after ruining this one.

Five minutes later...click...click...click...FLAME!

The feeling I had at that point was comparable only to one other instance--the time I was able to confirm that the condom, in fact, did NOT break.

Summary: get an Xtend and don't look back :D

:r I hope the auger of death wasn't involved in that instance. Glad your lighter stood the test. I really like the looks of the xtends and maybe someday I will get one, but right now I rather spend the money on cigars when I can.

:r:r:r:r:r

Great story! I laughed the whole time. I had this happen to my "chotchy" Colibri Enterprise, and it survived as well. Sad thing is, my cell phone didn't!

I love reading about lighters. It's funny how everyone bitches about Colibri... right up until the point where one perfectly lights their cigar.:tu

Sounds like you've got a good lighter, mon!
