Do you care if your S.O. doesn't keep up?

I thought I was the only one encountering this. My wife is very generous when it comes to my spending yet she feels bad spending on herself. We lost our home and everything we own to a house fire last year on my 31st birthday. She has since then been replenishing my wardrobe, wine bar, things I enjoy and use and yet she won't go to the mall to buy herself clothing, etc. I finally told her last week that I am ordering her to go out shopping for the entire day to buy whatever she wants or needs and i don't want to hear about it. Hopefully it doesn't bite me in the a** but knowing her, it won't.

At least I am not alone. My wife is pretty good about spending it once I have put my foot down... which I have now in this case.

On the joint account front I am guessing that is something you either need or don't. My wife and I have very similiar goals and we have accomplished quite a bit in 20 years considering we started with nothing. If things stay on course we will be retiring early and that isn't bad. It has always been us against the world and together we have crushed the enemy in almost every battle. It would be weird to seperate out what is hers and mine because it has always been ours.

My wife and I are kinda the opposite. I'm pretty cheap and always watching the budget, and she's good about not spending TOO much on herself... but I've got a weak spot for buying her nice things. Usually jewelry. But I have a hard time spending for myself. I figure a few hundred for her sparkly things justifies a 5er or a JoeCigar deal every now and again, sometimes a bottle of wine or two, or some decent beer. I bought a handgun a few months back for ~$350, that's the most I've spent on myself at any one time in about 4 yrs.

We don't buy each other presents. For most occasions we give the other a card. We set aside money to spend on ourselves for things like Christmas.

I am very blessed my wife has never said no to any purchase that I have wanted no matter how unreasonable, sometimes I do have to wait a little bit to get what I want but we always move towards the same goal. As far as a smoke budget my wife is a member of the jungle and loves going to the B&M and has more expensive taste than I do:tu

My wife and I have separate bank accounts. Half our income goes into a joint account for joint paying bills (mortgage, utilities, etc). Half goes into our personal accounts (car payments, insurance, cell phones, etc).

I can spend my money on whatever I want.

:tpd: except half my money goes into the joint account for bills and all her money goes into her pocket

With your spending that is.

My wife is overly practical. She doesn't give a flip about what I spend (within reason of course) but getting her to spend money on herself is a real hassle.

I am forcing her to spend 2k on herself so I can feel better about replenishing my humidors. I can't enjoy myself otherwise.

Guilt is a terrible thing.I have none :D

Not to be a jerk or single you out (and you shouldn't feel bad because most people make the same mistakes) but these really annoy me.

My wife is a real spendthrift and hardly ever spends money on herself.

spendthrift (spĕnd'thrĭft')
n.
One who spends money recklessly or wastefully.

She could care less what I buy or how much I spend...

I look at the wood floors and granite countertops my wife had to have on the way to my office, and feel absolutely no guilt as I reach into my overflowing humidor for an expensive cigar. I've compromised by brushing my teeth to get the cigar smell off.

My wife can have anything she wants and she is typically very frugal which is good since I'm a shopper. The good news I suppose is I don't spend to budget busting excess and my plans for and accomdates for my expenditures.

I couldn't care less about this post! :r Just joking bro thanks for the grammar lesson.

It's a maternal guilt chick thing. I've learned to ignore it. I'm convinced they like it. :)
I do a couple things to even the score. Kerri has a couple guilty pleasures. She loves goofy flavored teas and local honey. She's recently decided she likes honey from all over the place.
So I make sure I order the teas and see to it that there's always four or five quarts of honey from God knows where. I see to it that stuff she likes to eat is always here and little things like that.
And when she says "I don't have anything to wear", I pretend the phone is ringing and I run out of the room as fast as I can and stay gone until she arrives wearing the clothes she didn't have just a short hour earlier.
I wish someone would have told me this kind of stuff a long time ago. :tu

my wife is the same way. I tell her its ok to spend the money. i did on some cigars go ahead. but she doesnt like to

I humbly hang my head in shame. I guess I couldn't care less since my wife apparently isn't a spendthrift.:D

I used to have to explain to an ex that spending money on smokes is spending money on an experience, not a material good, and that people who spend money on experiences, according to a study I once read, are happier than those who spend money on things.

So are you going to be a grammar nazi on everyone's post? You pull that with me and it won't go over well. I'm jes sayin.

The mistakes caught my eye too but in context it was clear what was meant. Grammar/vocabulary errors in casual conversation don't annoy me but rudeness will get my goat every time.

We get started at the same time. I can't help it if she can't keep up. Wait, that is something different.

I guess I could care less...I just choose not too.

I never care enough to determine how much less I could care. Seems if you are going to take the time to measure your level of caring you might still be able to care less.
