Fire pits, chimnea's, outdoor heating options

This is what I have used for probably 7 years. On my second one, they are horses! Put out great heat in ALL directions, can play with fire also.

The people I work for have a GAS/WOOD pit. They use a gas grill type thing to light the wood, when it gets going they turn the gas off. Kinda cool, because you can start with wet wood in any weather situation. One problem they do have is this: they forget to turn the gas off and they burn a whole propane tank before they notice it. Once the fire gets going its hard to notice the blue gas flames.

But it also takes the fun out of using kindling and paper, which I like to do.

Gentlemen, go to the trusty Cabela's and order the Deluxe Alaknak II tent! It has a wood stove for heat. I use mine for hunting and in the winter time the boys and I use it in the backyard to play poker and smoke cigars. It works out great! :tu

I have 2 tabletop propane heaters I bought a while back at Home Depot. They're about 3 feet high. I put one on either side of the long table on the back deck & that way everyone gets a little...warmth.

I had 3 chimneas from home depot and everyone only lasted 2 seasons, will never buy one from their again within 2 weeks it cracked, they are only sun dried, not kiln fired, bought a cheap fire pit from wally world for $60....but if I ever lay down money in the future it will be a cast aluminum chimnea will last forever...a little pricey but you get what you pay for...link... http://www.thebluerooster.com/catalog/cast-aluminum-c-26.html

i have a cast chiminea, unlike those pictured in your link the door/grate is 360 "round entire unit, it throws off heat like an over.
the clay chimneas are junk........but you fig it out already

I built a fire pit out back using the stacker type stones that you can get at any Home Depot or Lowes. I built mine in kind of a "D" shape with the back being straight. I will try and take some pics this weekend. It works great and it didn't cost too much to build. We have a woods buffer between us and a farm and we have a hill in the backyard so I put it on the edge of the hill overlooking the woods, so most nights sitting out there it's real quiet and relaxing. Plenty of heat but keep in mind I usually have 6-8ft flames shooting out of it. This is what the pavers/stacker stones look like.

I originally bought a Luminarium; a $500 "smokeless" firepit that took a special fuel. It sucked ass, gave it to my sister, where she barely every uses it.

I then went out and bought a $100 firepit I use constantly. I love smoking
a cigar by the fire. Lesson learned.

That's very similar to one I saw this weekend while at a BBQ. They had it set-up very close to the way you have yours set-up except it was filled with lava rocks and had lots of flames coming out from underneath them. Extremely warm and could be adjusted remotely. It was pretty cool!

Maybe I got lucky with my chiminea, but it cost me $80 at Home Depot 2 yrs ago and is still going strong. I keep it uncovered, never clean it, never have a problem. Not much ash buildup, no cracks, it's great! I burn oak, and usually only burn 4 or 5 logs for ~2 hrs of fire. Each log is maybe ~5"x12"

My only complaint is that it's directional. Makes it tough for a bunch of people to crowd around for warmth, but on the other hand it's perfect for just my wife and I, maybe another couple. It sits in the corner of my deck, and being directional I'm not too concerned about catching the house on fire :) I keep warm pretty well even in the dead of winter, so it's mostly for the women anyway ;)

i can fit plenty of Thompson cataolgues in my chiminea!!!!!!!!

also if you geta cast chiminea soa it down in wd40 a few times year. the are cast iron & aluminium & itr will help curb the rust.... wd is flamable so plan accordingly

editted my quote I didnte realize there's
a guy around here known as tcc... sorry taboo.
