firefighter needs some prayers....

You know you got em Steve. I'll make sure my house knows as well, and send out some good vibes for all involved.

We heard about her and have been waiting for more updates. Sorry to hear she is close to your family. The fire fighters here have been doing an awesome job, they have saved Ramona from going up in flames.

It seems that CNN are up to their usual tricks:mad:
the good news is Brooke is doing well:)

Subject: Brooke-San Diego Fires
Let me just start from the beginning for those who I
may have missed in the previous email.
Brooke was injured in the fire on Sunday. Her truck
was over run by the fire and they had to run for their
lives. You will hear on the news that four fire
fighters were injured. That is her truck engine. You
may also be hearing a horrible report from CNN that is
so sensationalized that I would really hurt the $#@$
that I did the interview with if I could. The
hospital decided to let one camera crew into the
hospital to try to stop the media circus. It didn't
work...it backfired. I was asked to be the family
spokesperson since the news so desperately wanted to
talk to us. They have distorted Brooke's condition by
using footage of other patients legs and faces that
are wrapped in bandages. Let me assure you that there
are NO PICTURES of Brooke! She is not wrapped in
white burn bandages. She does have burn ointment on
the top half of her face and then yellow saran wrap
type of a bandage on top of the medicine. Her burns
are going to be fine and probably will heal on their
own without surgery. It has been described as a
chemical peel that a lot of women pay to have. I met
a firefighter yesterday who was burned on Sept.14th
here in SD when he was trapped by fire in his
bulldozer. By the grace of God, UCSD, and his will to
live and heal quickly you can't tell that the left
side of his face from his nose to his ear was deep 2nd
& 3rd degree burns. He had two surgeries to replace
skin and rebuild his ear. Here it is only 6 weeks
later and you have to know that he was burned if you
look at his face. So please understand that Brooke's
beautiful face will be fine!!!!! Again the only
reason she is still in ICU is her lungs. We don't
know the extent of the damage but she is expected to
fully recover. We don't know how long she will be in
the ICU but I assure you I will send out another email
when we have that type of information. She can't have
visitors right now and it will be after her face
swelling comes down. She doesn't want people to see
her like that.
I appreciate all the love, prayers and offers of help
but we are being very well taken care of by the CDF
fire group, UCSD and many other groups. I am so
surrounded by everyone at the hospital that I will
feel like I need to entertain you and make sure you
are OK so that is why I have turned down all offers of
holding my hand. At this point it would be for your
benefit more than mine. I hope you understand.
Linda
P.S. Along with CNN I did a interview with Harry Smith
at CBS Morning News to try to undo the damage that CNN
did. I will never watch CNN again!!!! The CBS news
was probably not seen locally because of local news coverage.

I just got another Email

Harry at CBS morning news did a great job of reporting
about Brooke other than saying "badly burned".....by
no means is she Badly Burned like most patients in the
Burn ICU. In fact they had to transfer her to
Surgical ICU to make room for those patients who were
badly burned. Her burns are considered 12%. One
small burn on her shoulder and the rest on her top
half of her face and her ears and that may also
include her lungs. I hope this video and what I am
telling you will stop everyone from thinking she is
critically burned. She is still critical and will be
as long as she is on a ventilator. Don't know when
that will be removed. She is now only on heavy
sedation and not the paralyzing drugs.

Thank you for the updates Steve. Wonderful to here she is already on the road to getting better! We continue to pour our hearts out to all of those affected by this tragedy!

Me and my wife's best wishes go out to her and all of her coworkers that did such an amazing job helping us get our SCValley fires under control so quickly. An amazing group of professionals.

I got this Email yesterday thought I'd pass it along

Brooke's surgery went very well. The doctor put donor
skin on her forehead, ear and neck. The nurses did
such a good job scrubbing her skin during her dressing
changes (2x a day) that her back didn't require any
donor skin. It was already healing with her own skin.
With her new bandages she looks like she dressed for
Halloween. Plus her sister-in-law Pam brought her
Halloween booties and she is wearing those also.
Her husband will arrive home Friday night. Ciara is
with family and friends trick or treating.

We opened another Fund at Wells Fargo Bank today that
doesn't disclose her last name. Donations can be made
at any Wells Fargo Bank to:

Subject: Yeah......she's hit another milestone
Today they had Brooke breathing on her own for 2
hours. She did great so they will do it again tonight
and then send the camera down tomorrow to see her
lungs. They expect to take her off the ventilator by
Saturday afternoon...hopefully!!!! Mike comes in
around 10pm tonight. We expect her to be moved back
to the burn unit in the next few days. I know a lot
of you will want to see her but again I will have to
ask that you email or call me first. I know she will
need a lot of rest and so when coming to visit please
limit your visit to about 10 minutes. That will allow
her the rest she will need and will allow more people
to see her. I know you have all been patient but just
a few more weeks and she will be so much better. I
have watched her other fellow firefighters who weren't
in ICU get to many visitors and they honestly look
very tired these past few days.
They think the skin grafts did very well but she will
need to go back into surgery possibly on Sunday to
have the staples and sutures removed and probably the
donor skin. At that time they will plan the next
course of action. At this time they don't know if she
will need skin grafts or plastic surgery. The most
concerning area is her right ear. But remember, we
met 3 other burn victims who by all means where so
much worse than her and they look great! She's not
going to be thrilled with her new haircut but her hair
grows quickly.
All along they keep saying that youth is on her side
as was her great physical shape.
P.S.
I sure wish this hospital computer had spell check!
