How do you take care of your cigar?

Luke W.

Newbie in the jungle
im kindof new and i would like to know how you take care of your cigars

from the purchase the smoke.

the more info the better :ss

If I understand your question correctly, I do as follows:
Pop it one of my humidors (65-68% relative humidity) for about 3 weeks at least. Then I set fire to the little bugger.:ss
I buy nearly all of my smokes online, which means 3-8 days in transit.
So I like to let them sit for a while to obtain optimum humidity levels. Some places ship really wet & others arrive dry, so in either case I like them to rest up from their grueling travel. My main humidity provider is in the form of Heartfelt beads. Way better than those silly floral foam discs the humidors come with.

I noticed this was your first and only post. Please take some time intro. yourself and let others get to know you a bit. Take some more time and read the stickies. I think the information that you looking for is out there but I also think spending a little time reading around and getting to know people will help you alot. If you need some more help on where to look PM me and I will do what I can to point you in the right direction. I know I don't know it all yet:r but I will try and help.

:tpd: Buy some 65% heartfelt beads, and set them in the humi for about 3 weeks. Then sit back and enjoy them.

As a new cigar smoker, I'd suggest you buy a cooler, get some empty cigar boxes (helps regulate humidity), buy 65% Heartfelt beads and some distilled water and buy some cigars.

I recommend buying a cooler over a humidor because: if you decide cigar smoking is not for you, you have a cooler. Humidity regulation is much easier with a cooler. Wood humidors some times work very well but, if you get a poorly made one, you'll have trouble holding proper humidity. You will outgrow any humidor you buy and need something bigger. With wood humidors, this gets expensive. I've bought two, 120 quart coolers for around $50.00 each and use just over 1/2 lb. of 65% beads in each. They're full and regulate to 65% very well.

I was lucky enough to have a humidor before i ever started smoking cigars. My mom picked it up for me in an auction because at that time i smoked pipes and she though it could use it. It's a cheap $30 humidor like you see on the websites around and it works great for me. It's a 30 or 40 cigar humi and i am just starting to need more space.

I sing to them as I tuck them into bed each evening.
:tpd: I keep mine in a rh controlled unit by day & they sleep in this every night.:r

I sing to them as I tuck them in to their little cedar beds while they gently drift off for a nice rest.

Most of mine don't live long enough (before I smoke them) to even worry about it.:r

I will give you a hint though, coolerdor and 65%RH beads.:tu Never mind the spanish cedar, a cooler "as is" from your local big box is all you need. Oh, and when your cigars aren't in your cooler, a zip lock bag is more than adequate to store your cigars from the shop to your coolerdor and if you're going to take them on the road to a herf or to keep in your glove box in your car.

That's all you need to know.:ss

In a couple of months, you're going to need a coolerdor too, especially if you keep hanging around this place.:r
