Humidiy retention question...

Maybe Brits call distilled water 'mineral water'; yikes, I hope so! If not, definitely save the mineral water for drinking and the distilled for ironing & humidification.

Oh, and just to clarify a little on madurolover's (and a couple others' on this thread), the 50/50 solution regulates the humidity and keeps it at about a perfect 70% relative humidity. I picked up a bottle of Xikar 50/50 not too long ago.

Lots of guys on here like beads. While I don't have any yet, they seem pretty nifty and probably better than what's inside your humidifier (green floral foam). You can get a tube of them (the beads) and throw it in one of the cigar slots in your travel humi. You still add solution to them, either 50/50 or distilled water.

Hmm...since the beads do a really good job of regulating humidity in their own right, I wonder if 50/50 is overkill. You might just be better off saving a little dough & just filling the beads with a little distilled.

Actually you never want to put 50/50 on your beads. The solution will clog the beads up and render them ineffective.

I've used the same traveldor for a 3 day weekend and the cigars stayed fine. Anything more and I would suggest beads as well.

Just to echo what most have already said - Do not use mineral water! -
50/50 solution is better than distilled water alone. It will keep the humidity from going too high. I use it and my levels stay between 68% and 70%.

Only other advice I can give it to not be so over worried about the humidity levels. Nearly all of us when starting out have some paranoia about maintaining exact humidity and temperature levels. However, keep in mind there are no exact magical numbers. Some say 70/70, some say 65/65, some say 65/68 etc. As long as you're within the general boundaries don't get worried about a little deviation ;)

Oh, and also don't be worried at all about humidity escaping when opening your humi! All humis do that but regain it after closing them again. Actually, it's a good thing for your stogies to get a little new "replacement" air in there every once in a while.

Rev.

Just wanted to say thank you to people who posted here and helped a newbie out.

I ended up smoking the Rocky Patel 92 - the draw was easy with a very good, even burn - sadly i'd have to say (in my very limited experience) that this cigar did not do that much for me.

I'm looking for something more creamy - i'm smoking the Monte Crist White which is supposed to be smooth and creamy next, so hope it lives up to the good reviews.

Thanks again people.

Take a look at the Cusano 18 Double Connecticut.....a good cigar, got a nice rating and very smooth and creamy.

Hmmm checked out the reviews on top25 and the Cusano sounds like what i'm after -...will try to pick one up for this friday's smoke.

Thanks
