Just getting started

Welcome chubno! All the advice you see below, is right on! My :2 : buy a humidor twice as large (at least) than you think you will ever need - before you know it, you will need another one twice as large as that; get some beads from Heartfelt (see okierock and ColdCuts's posts below) or a couple of pucks from Cigarmony; then make sure you have a nice digital hygrometer or two. Personally, I like the Fluker's thermo hygrometer. You can get them in a local pet store (in the fish/reptile section) and they work better than other hygrometers that cost much more. I found a couple on eBay for $10! Then, share with your fellow BOTL's! It really is a fun ride down the slope!

I highly recommend this humidor deal just don't look at anything else on the devil site. This is a fairly nice humidor and comes with 30 decent cigars well I really like the A series and the limitada. And the other two are still very smokeable. Just don't pay to much I wouldn't pay more than a hundred shipped. And like everybody has stated BUY THE BEADS. It will save you a big head ache.:sl And if you have the beads as long as you keep them at 60-70% saturation then you shouldn't have to worry about a digital hygrometer right away. Just make sure to salt test the anolog one that comes with it and adjust the screw in the back so it reads correctly. Well welcome to cs and good luck on the humidor selection. Make sure to get at least 100+ but you don't need nothing huge cause that is what a coolerdor is for.;)

Like I said before it is a cool humidor and the cigars are all very smokeable.

I'm very new at this and I've just finished reading through the beginners guides (very good) and I have been looking for a deal to get started. I've found a deal at cubancrafters for a humidor and 15 cigars. Is this a good company and deal?

Looking forward to starting
:)

I started with the Cuban Crafter 150ct humidor with sticks when I picked the habit back up a little over a year ago. They have some decent packages for the price. Don't expect much from the sticks, but they are decent $1 smokes.

I've since moved up to a larger humidor (the infamous "Vick"), but I still use my CC humi. Be prepared to replace the humidification system and hydrometer, but the boxes they have are decent deals.

No regrets here.

One thing to consider on cheap or any humidors is the quality of the cedar used. On cheaper humidors, the cedar will still sap somewhat, and this is not good. Higher priced humidors used well aged cedar that does not sap.

I agree with this to a point. Aged cedar is not as likely to "weap" sap. All spanish cedar (not really cedar at all but a type of mahogany) has the potential for sap, but if the humidor is kept at the proper temperature range (65-70) it shouldn't be a problem. If however you let your humi get into the 90 degree range you are gonna have problems with sap and possibly problems with critters as well.:2

Chub - All you need is one nice BIG humidor. As the disease takes hold, I would suggest going over to tupper or coolers. Put some cedar sheets in, and they're as good as any fancy humi. You can also be creative and use a desk drawer or wood cabinet for long term storage. Just put in some cedar, a humidification device and yr. good to go. Larry.:s

Well, thanks everyone for your input. I just purchased my first humidor. It holds 50 sticks. I just finished a salt test and now I'm getting her ready. I guess I need to start getting some supplies. What is the best place to purchase my firsts cigars, low budge right now.
Thanks for your input

If you've got one nearby, now is the perfect time to begin fostering a relationship with your local B&M (stands for Brick & Mortar cigar shop). You'll be paying more than if you shop online, but since you're just starting out, it'll be nice to see the products before you buy, and it'll be a big benefit to have a tobacconist to answer your questions. :2

Whatever you do, do NOT--I repeat--do NOT buy any cigars from Thompson. Their catalog looks very nice, and the descriptions of their cigars and the prices make it very tempting, but their house brand cigars are garbage and their prices on name brands are way high. Actually, truth be told, I bought my first humidor from them and I love it. I've had it for over 3 years and it has never failed me. Even the hygrometer is still dead accurate. BUT, don't buy any cigars from them. READ THE STICKYS about vendors and "budget" cigars. Do samplers and 5 packs. Soon you will get to know what you like and don't like. Happy hunting. :D

I agree with ColdCuts here. Find a guy you can talk to at a local B&M and let him know what you like and don't. He will give you some ideas what to try. One thing I think thats important for a noob smoker to not do is to make blanket opinions about ANY kind of cigar. ie don't limit yourself by saying "I like robustos" and then not trying a Churchill for instance.

Try em all:w

Yes, I agree. My neighbor gave me a cigar from Thompson (cataloge too) and I didn't like it. BIG thanks

I just purchased my first order from cigarbid.com - I'll see how that goes and I'm planning on visiting a cigar shop in Mt. Pleasent this week.

forget the humidor, forget the cigars, just run while you still have the chance.

But if you are like the rest of us, and enjoy being broke.. then i would also suggest you invest in a fine LARGE humidor. I thought a 125ct would be good for me.. i filled it in less than 4 months..

I would stay away from humidor + cigars packages. as they are most likely crummy cigars. just spend the extra $$ on a nice humidor.. you will have NO problem filling it....
good luck, and you may consider a 2nd job..

Well, I was considering the 2nd job but it was for a new truck.
