Me vs Nicotine - score: 0:2

didn't u know excercise can kill you. What u need to do here is get use to the nicotine. Go get a big fat La Flor Dominca Double Ligero and nub that sucker.
Then everything else u smoke will seem wimpy. :ss (Ok I,m kidding) U have gotten plenty of good advice here, go slow start small and mild, work your way up. then do the LFD.

Some recommendations for mild smokes, and definitely try the smaller sizes first:
Casa Torano
5 Vegas Gold
RP Connecticut
CAO Gold (non-maduro)
Perdomo Champagne

Thanks! Sounds like a good excuse to visit the B&M again :D

I leave for a couple of hours and get flooded with responses.... you guys are awesome! Thanks for all the great advice. With any luck I'll be able to post with a little more hair on my chest in a couple of weeks ;)

Saturday night I had the first cigar I've ever bought myself (and about my 4th ever smoked), a CAO Gold Maduro, and enjoyed it during an hour and a half walk. I took a small bottle of mountain dew with me for sugar, and probably finished about half it during the walk. All went well until about 20 minutes after I got done, I felt like I needed to do a little purging of my own. I had eaten a big meal about an hour before walking, so I assume it's just being new to nicotine that made me sick.

Last night I fired up a Padron Ambassador Natural and didn't make it past a few puffs before deciding that wasn't gonna happen. The taste didn't sit well with me, and I think my body remembered the after effects of the CAO, because I started getting the hint of an unset stomach. I'm almost positive I've had a Padron Natural before with my father in law without problems, so I'm assuming it was just Saturday night's experience that made the padron unpleasant.

Is this normal for somebody with no tolerance to nicotine? if so, how many times to I have to get sick before this stops?!? Seeing how I've got a sampler coming in from CI, and have a few packages coming in from the devil (why, oh why did I ever click that link??!), and have some beads from Heartfelt on their way, I'm pretty motivated to get through this :ss

Any suggestions, or just keep on trying?

Dude, same thing happened to me with a Montecriso white tonight. I was puking and nothing was helping me, until my bro came up with the brilliant idea to have a cup of coffee and trust me, it helped me 10 fold. try it next time you get sick, or until you build up a tolerance.

I believe the 4th cigar I ever had was a LFD Double Ligero and the thing knocked me on my ass. I was stunned of course, but I puffed away. I ended up not smoking until a week later, but I was glad to have had the DL because I was able to gauge the strength of cigars much better after that.

But like people have said, try sitting down and enjoying a nice sweet drink, it will definitely help!

Keeping a packet of sugar or some hard candy in your pocket really helps if you start to feel the Vitamine N kicking your butt. Seems to take the edge off very quickly.

Do not smoke a cigar as you would a cigarette. Take your time--savor the taste, the aroma; if you smoke too fast you’ll develop a burned taste in your cigar. One or two puffs per minute should be enough to keep it lit.
Do not inhale any smoke and never swallow the residue of any tobacco product; it will make you ill.

Im bumpin your ring gauge just cause your not a quitter. ps. La Aurora coronas are fairly mild. try them:tu

Does this mean when I felt like I needed to spit and did, that was right? and when I swallowed, I shouldn't have? (jesus christ, did I just write that?!?)

seriously though, if I'm not chewing the end of the thing, does your advice still apply?

Until you have some more experience, stick to coronas, rothschild or maybe robusto size cigars. Also avoid Maduro's for a little while. Stick with the Natural or Cameroon Wrappers. Build up to the Medium to Full sticks by way of the Milder ones first. Those Maduros have more of their natural oils and can be very full and may not sit well with someone who isn't used to cigars yet. Trust me you'll be fine.

Internet **** and a spit vs. swallow debate in a cigar thread...wow. I'm fairly new at this game and my first couple cigars gave me a buzz. I've been focusing on smoking slowly like the others and smoking smaller cigars to start with. The past few weeks it has been mostly Perdomo Champagne and Padron Londres (natural wrapper) to build up my tolerance. I've only been smoking after dinner and I haven't had much of a buzz after I started doing this. Good luck and keep with it....it is well worth it.

If you need to spit, that means that you should've had a drink on hand to wash the spiciness away. As a relative newb, I'll say that there shouldn't really be a time you don't atleast have a bottle of agua around to cleanse your palate. Sometimes cigar flavors can get heinous, and in that case, you'll find out why a drink should always accompany a cigar.

Water doesn't always help with the Nicotine sickness. I had two bottles of water to enjoy my cigar with tonight and I still got sick. Normally, water does help, as it keeps you hydrated, but I also recommend something with sugar in it as well, or caffeine. Maybe even both.

Selecting a beverage to accompany fine cigars is a matter of personal taste, which will vary depending on the occasion. The tradition is a fine cognac or brandy; the clean, crisp flavor of these liquers perfectly compliment the smooth flavor of a premium hand-rolled cigar. Alternates include Port (its sweetness blends splendidly if you choose a full-bodied smoke), single-malt Scotch, Bourbon and Wine. If you prefer non-alcoholic beverages, try fruit juice or a favorite cola--both do quite well to cleanse the palate between puffs.

ahahahahha this is soooo sig worthy!! I'm gonna put it up once I'm done typing out this reply bwhahahah

Great advice in this thread, I was like you, no tolerance to nicotine.

I'll list my own just to make this post worthy:
-sit and relax
-don't puff too often, maybe 1-2min in between puffs...
-eat before, you've got that down already along with the soda/beverage.
-don't inhale, as you've learned.
-lean more towards the lighter wrappers, usually the lighter they are, the more mild they are. Unless you're smoking CC's then you can scratch that.
-don't give up, but don't kill yourself, cigars aren't for everyone. But if it's something you really want to do then by all means, keep on puffin!
-don't leave the cigar in your mouth if you're not puffing, I've read that a lot of the nicotine enters our bodies through our lips. I have big lips so I assume that I get maximum absorbsion haha.
-pm me your addy so I can send you some cigars.

spitting is fine, swallowing afterward is fine too, just as long as you're not swallowing any spit as that will lead to a very very very upset stomach.

Go get yourself a Joya de Nicaragua Antano.

Oh wait, don't do that.

Take all the advice previously stated and keep a small packet of sugar handy. When you start feeling the nicotine just put some of the sugar on your tongue and swallow. Pretty quickly knocks out the effect of the nicotine.

An outstanding mild smoke is the Taboo Cameroon. Awesome flavors even to a new palette, affordable, and you will not be killed by a huge nic intake.

Now as noted above. I can send you a LFD, which will either cure you or kill you!!!
