New sub-hobby

If you take a crappy cigar and age it, you then have a old crappy cigar..

I can think of better things I can spend my money and space on.. :2

Hey, guys! Lighten up on the dude. He might actually enjoy aging crap!!! He'll never know unless he tries.

But in all fairness, what has been said above several time is true: if you age new crap, you will end up with old crap. No meaningful improvement will be discovered.

I know.

I smoked a Don Sebastian that had lain on the bottom of my humi for nearly 5 years, alone and forgotten. Well, I figured it might just have gotten better during that five years.

It hadn't.

IMHO RP Edge isn't necessarily a 'bad' smoke.... agreed about the Tamborils, though.

So, this is a curiosity thing?

Could you elaborate on that a little...

Took a 3 month old, nice and fresh RP Edge (toro maduro) and put it in a bag in my microwave on the rice setting. Low power cycles the radiation on and off to keep moisture on rice setting. The objective of my experiment was to force the emergence and crystallization of the oils in the tobacco.

What I got was a cigar that had crystals...and sat in a puddle of water in the bag.

But hey, it worked, right? :)

I have heard of folks taking sub-par cigars and doing their own infusing ala Drew Estate by putting them in tupperware or a coolerdor with a shot glass on nice cognac or rum or other alcoholic beverage. As the booze evaporates, it "soaks into" the cigars and gives them a nice flavor.

That's more or less what I want to do.

I want to find some absolute turds and experiment on them some to see what kinds of smokes I can create. At the worst, I lose a few dollars, less than 100. No big deal. At the best, I may be on to something that I can share or possibly capitalize from.
