Palio, XiKAR, Zino cutter comparison (PICS)

I've owned all three of these cutters and my order goes like this.

Worst-Best
Xikar, Zino, Palio

And I have to say, I still say palio is hands down the best, despite the fact that after cutting my first cigar with it, the damn thing flew in half and one of the blades flew out. I put it back together and the blade is a bit wobbly, but it still cuts so much better than anything I've ever used. So far I haven't been able to part with it long enough to send it back for replacement. As for taking it to a shop directly, the nearest one to me is too far, and I doubt they would have another carbon fiber in stock. I'm gonna bite the bullet soon I think and buy another, or send this one back to cigarmony.

Wow Palio rocks. I got a PM asking me to send mine back to be replaced. I've gotta say thats some pretty ****ing amazing customer service. I know how amazing their warrant policy is, but having a manufaturer seek you out to fix the problem, A+++++++

...i always use my Xikar...and i get a kick out of the little clicky release deal the xikar has...endless hours of mindless fun. i used to take it with me to dinner...open, close, open, close, open....open, close.

:r I find myself doing the same thing. It's getting on everybody's nerves...:r

I have both, the Palio and Xikar. Love the look of my Xikar, it's a thing of beauty, but I find the Palio easier to use.

:)

I am so grateful for you to join and show us "the way". Nice intro by the way.

You'll really like him after he finishes chapter 2 in the book he's reading: Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends and Influence People.":)

Oh. To stay on topic. The other day, I gave away the cheap plastic cutter I've been using for over 15 years since I now have a PALIO!

edit: Ooops. Didn't know I was responding to a thread that had "mold" on it.

The best operation and sharpness for an excellent cut is the Palio. However if you what a cool mechanism, high style and need to cut large ring gage cigars - XiKAR. For price the Club Stogie can't be beat (also great on the golf course, I donate balls and cutters to the golf gods frequently). With the above three in my arsenal, the Zino is left out in the cold, but it is a nice compact cutter.

So, if you like figurados, perfectos, torpedos, or any stick 50 ringer or smaller, sounds like having a 'Palio' is the ticket. An excellent comparison of cutters...:ss

The Palio will cut all of the 52-54 RG cigars I smoke. You're not cutting the full diameter, just the cap (or at least you should be).

Thanks for all the positive feedback!

It has been almost a year since the review. I have used the Palio about 90% of the time which equates to about 300 cigars. No problems and still sharp as can be.

Use the XiKAR for any large ring cigars that will not fit in the Palio.

Have not used the Zino much since it has the smallest ring size, but it is still an excellent cutter.

The others mostly get used when away from home.

No offense but how long have you guys been smoking cigars? To obsess so over cutters, when the freebie I got with my $25 bundle of Don Pico, Pongo, whatever cuts just as clean as my Palio, Tsuge, Sherman, Zino, etc. etc. I find amazing (to say nothing of the time that's been expended on this topic).

Guys, obsess over your choice of cigars not the metallurgical properties of your cant'-be-beat cutter. You are not performing circumcisions and there is no threat of a lawsuit if you take too much off. Plus, where do you find the time - photos, hand measurements, testimonials...

Having said that, I can't come down too hard on you.... when I first started smoking premium cigars (more years ago than I'd care to remember), I too contemplated hiring an engineering consulting firm to do an exhaustive comparison study of the cutting quality (after all, how could I sleep at night knowing that I might have bought the wrong model!) of 250 known brand cutters. Now I just want to sit back and smoke my darn cigars. Which is what many of you should be doing. :ss

For me, the only one that hasn't come close to severing a finger is my Xikar. It has served me well. The rest of my collection is for show.

:r:r:r So true, so true, so true.

Today I used my brand new Xikar I mean Ive only cut 2 cigars with it and this thing does not leave a clean cut at all. The sides are fine but in the muddle it like just bunches up the tobacco and leaves some bump/s

smokey,

Try laying the Xikar flat on a table and putting the head off the cigar in the opening. Then bring the blades where both blades are touching each side of the cigar and then, while holding the cigar firmly, snap shut. It seemed to really cut down on the bunching for me.

This is what I always do. Its not too too bad but for a cutter that is supposed to be really good I wanna clean cut. I have a free single blade cutter I got for free and it cuts nicer
