Snake Hips
Götterdämmerung
I opened up my humidor this evening for something new. Which isn't hard, because I haven't tried most of the cigars I have (thanks to all the BOTLs that made it happen ). I dug and looked and pondered and compared and thought...and I settled on this oily, black beast.
Appearance is very nice. Thick, dark, maduro wrapper, fat and medium in length, no large veins, stylish band. I like a good-lookin' cigar with a handsome band.
An easy clean cut, a toast and a light and I went to sit on the porch and listen to the rain.
The first part of this cigar was PEPPER. Holy balls this thing was spicy. Like it was rolled with black peppercorns. I actually liked it - it was different. I haven't had anything of this caliber. So I fixed me a cup of chai tea, because it seemed appropriate. After the first half inch the pepper subsided substantially and it became more of a cinnamon spice - sweet n' spicy on the back of the tongue and in the throat (or is that cancer?). Earthy and woody are about what I would say it was like.
Half way through the spiciness would return a bit, and it waxed and waned until the end. The flavor maintained its basic profile through the entirety of the cigar and got to tasting a little like coffee toward the end.
I liked this cigar, because I wasn't really sure what to think about people saying cigars were "spicy" until now. Lawd a' mussy. But it was nice and flavorful, and didn't plow me into the ground with nicotine, even though I got a pretty good buzz near the end (I'm getting better with nicotine though - might be the snuff).
If you like it a little spicy and you like maduro - pick one of these up. But then again, I haven't ventured into DPG Black or Tatuaje or any of Pepin's power blends, so this might not be that spicy to some, but whatever.
Thoroughly enjoyable pick :tu
