not much about the band looks good to me... except that maybe it's put on at about the right place...

the spacing on the font is way jacked... wait, does that say "MONTECRUSTO" ? :r

and, yeah, no triple cap... heck, it's probably just a trick of the pic, but I hardly see a cap at all.

Okay, honestly does it matter if it is fake or not? First of all, I assume your friend is new to cubans, probably new to cigars from the circumstances you described. He could not tell the difference if you gave him a fake cuban and a regional limited edicion super selection custom hand-rolled habano rolled by Castro himself. So if he smokes it and likes it good. If he doesn't, I'm sorry.

It'd matter to me if it were fake or real. Even if I'd never had one before, I just payed for a cigar with the expectations that I'd be smoking a Habanos Cigar. If it were me, I'd like my buddy to tell me what's wrong with it so that it wouldn't happen again... People who don't regularly smoke cigars all want to try a legit Cuban cigar; imho, there's nothing wrong with that.

i had a monte with a band like this once... tasted good to me.

There is no detail in the band, and the band looks off in color. I just checked the several Monte's in my humidor. I believe it is a fake montecristo.

What he said, although I don't think I've ever tried those particular regionals. ;)

Hi Rich.

Tell him, "it might be real" and to just smoke it. It he likes it great. It's silly to place his expectations in question over one cigar.

Good idea.

Maybe you should try to find some real Montecristos to look at so that you can know for yourself (telling others--optional). :tpd:

A buddy of mine is wondering if this is real or not. He says a buddy got it in mexico, I'm thinking it's fake.

This statement presents multiple hearsay issues that I'm afraid requires that further references to your post be excluded from this thread. ;)

The problem there, especially if it's his first, is the cigar can be a POS and taste nasty. Turn him off.
My first Cuban (or cigar for that matter), was a real Monte 4. The rest is history. :hn

I think you don't understand the purpose of my post. First of all, if you could tell that your first cuban was real with knowing your supplier was legitimate I am impressed. What I was getting at is if we had to I.D. fakes for every tourist that bought cigars in Mexico, we would have to sit here for the next 100 years. This is a waste of time for the forum. It takes 10 minutes to do research.

I can appreciate that... but I respectfully don't think you understand the purpose of your post. You just clearly stated that it doesn't matter if it's real or not as the guy wouldn't know the difference. No mention of research. All I'm saying is it's important for everyone to know if they are smoking the real thing... so they can make a true assessment, even if they are a newb they deserve that.

I did know my supplier was legit btw. If I had a fake for my first, I certainly wouldn't have started my journey down this slope 13 years ago. :hn
keep smilin' :D
