Review on new Zippo Blue Lighter

I've had one that I bought on e-bay 3 months ago. Works well, but occasionally fails to light on the first attempt. For the money, I prefer my Blazer!!!

Already mentioned in earlier thread that I am not excited with my Zippo Blue lighter. In my case, beginning to think the problem may be in the flint cartridge mechanism. With a new flint I have not been able to seat the flint set screw fully. Thus, found the flint cartridge sets slightly higher to the fuel discharge, plenty of spark but takes several attempts to get a light. Once the flint wears down slightly and the set screw is fully tightened the lighter seems to work much better. Considering shortening spring a little as a possible fix. In meantime, during its trial period, using Jetlite as a backup. Anyhow, had an urge to add my $.02, along with my obervations.

Well I picked up a black Zippo Blu and decided to take it out on a test drive at a party this past weekend and it did not turn out as a success. First it did get many ooos and ahhs from the guys and let me see it was a good sign as the beer pong table was being set up but the wife’s and girls all had the same comments as it was too big for their liking but this just made the guys like it more because it became a man lighter ugh ugh.

As the game started and the beers were going down fast it was working good and every time I lit a smoke for myself or partner it was watch and that’s cool was said from time to time but then the shots of kamikazes came out and inebriation started to set in and it got passed to other players and the coadunation need to light it started to become a problem, explaining the motion of striking the wheel and pushing done the button at the same time became difficult when one of my larger friends was yelling I WANT FIRE NOW! as he then wandered over to the fireplace to light his cigar.

From there it just got worse as of course someone found a white robe and decided to become an official product tester (oh yes we wrote product tester on the robe with magic marker, at least now I know what to get his wife for x-mas) and suggestions were put forth for what can be done with this lighter, it did pass the burning through a beer can test and also the lighting of the patio torches after the magic marker was taken away from us and we were told to go outside by the owner of the robe, but it did not fair well with the hot potato test as it was dropped (would you ever figure that a black lighter was hard to see in the dark? by six inebriated men ) several times and stopped working all together after that. So it was given a failed in product testing rating and not something you could expect to give good service under extreme conditions.

But I did have my backup Zippo from 1997 that worked flawlessly through out the rest of the night (it even had to be fished out of the pool during the long pass test) and there were many chants of ZIPPO ZIPPO ZIPPO before we were made to come back inside for acting like children and also cake was being served.

Nice story, Ken! I just bought a Ronson Jet-lite from Wal-Mart for $2.99! Nice chrome appearance and works flawlessly!
Always carry a back-up, Man!

I don't know what people's infatuation w/ the blazer z-plus inserts. i've owned about 10 of them and they are absolute garbage.

Got mine almost 6 months ago, and I love it. It was a little loose in my original zippo case, but a little tape around the bottom, and it's perfect.

Me too. Can't believe it was $2.94. The fit and finish isn't spectacular but it's a much nicer lighter than I expected for the price and it lights reliably.
