The economy and cigar budgets

Anyone feel the pinch yet? The economy is slowing the gas prices are up anybody else scale back on buying smokes? I know I did, passing up a lot of good deals,I am a contractor and we are usually the first to feel the pinch as people don't spend money on contractors unless they must...they are busy filling their gas tanks with saudi oil...INSTEAD OF DRILLING AND REFINING OUR OWN...but this is not a political board....
 
Drilling our own oil is not the answer either brother.:D But yes i belive everyone has cut back on smokes,I know i have.:chk
 
I have scaled back almost entirely..

Until things improve, I will be smoking through my current inventory..

I work in real estate (wholesale mortgage), so I took a 75% paycut over the last 2 years. :hn
 
Yep, the casual stick at the B&M has sorta slide by the way side. Instead of picking up 3 - 5 to try something new, I'm more inclined to either do a swap here or a buy a WTS post. I prolly spend more on bombs than I do on my self, just can't give that up. Too much dammm fun :)

Cbid, specials, and box splits are where most of my sticks come from. Usually on known sticks so as not to risk the funds on an unknown.
 
I haven't been buying much lately, but it's mostly because I'm out of room to store cigars. I haven't been hurt much by the slow economy. The high gas prices have affected my driving habits, but they haven't cut into other areas of my budget yet.
 
I bought a boatload of cigars last year, I won't have to buy for like 2 years. now I can enjoy them (even the Tamborils). I think having our very own oil supply IS the answer, And corn could go back to being food. As important as oil is to our economy think plastics, clothing, transport almost anything you touch or use. And we rely on terrorist nations for it when were sitting on as much as they have. Doesn't make a whole lotta sense.....but this is another topic sorry to rant.
 
I'm pretty much stocking up now as the prices for cigars will probably go up along with everything else. If I start having to curtail other outside activities, at least I'll still be able to enjoy a nice smoke at home. :ss
 
Yeah, cut waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back.

As a matter of fact if it weren't for the 20 Men That Ride Like 100 (actually turned out to be 34) bomb that shilala lambasted me with back in mid-March, I'd be a non-smoker by now. Probably would have been by the end of March actually.

There's not one penny in my budget for cigars as of today.
 
I have cut back very severely since being forced into part time work last year and am expecting retirement this year.
 
This same thought occurred to me about 2 months ago when things started to head south at the office. I am a land planner/developer and there just does not seem to be much going on around here lately. I too have been forced to smoke my inventory and cut back on my cigar budget. I find I smoke more at home now instead of the B&M to reduce my beer intake (i have lost some weight though). I find my self loading my online shopping cart with what I would love to purchase and then closing down and dreaming of when I can do it again :ss.

Soon brothers...very soon. Just hold out till after September. It does not matter what happens in the election, things will pick up. People forget that this happens every 4 years. IMHO!
 
Yes indeed! I commute 84 miles a day. I was smart and bought a Prius last year, but the pice of gas is still killing my disposable income. Food is also up, my daughter starts college in two years and things are so slow at work I'm convinced that they will have to start layoffs. So, still buying a real little, but mostly smoking what I own.

My supply stash was so well stocked I've been smoking through what I already have instead of making more purchases. Not really pinched by the economy but the days of spending $1k/month for the hell of it are over with prices of everything else skyrocketing.
 
I have to drive back between two major cities every so often... $60 in gas round trip... kill me :hn. Still haven't managed to curb this cigar addiction, though. I set a $6 limit per stick to myself.

I have been enjoying the stash that I have been amassing over the years.
 
I think discretionary items like cigars will take a big hit. People will smoke cigarettes because it's a habit, but people can give up cigars and pipes when they want. I've decided to stop purchasing cigars. I do frequent the WTS forum and if I make a purchase I try to sell something for roughly the same amount.

I should be okay until the economy turns...I've got about 500 cigars currently.
 
I'm actually still buying so I can get my stock built up. Got a new B-Day humidor from my wife, don't want to hurt her feelings seeing it almost empty. :D I only have about a five mile drive to work, but last time I filled up my truck it was over $70.00. That's just terrible.....:mad:
 
Luckily, I have a job that isn't going anywhere. As a matter of fact, when the economy slows, I have more "clients" that need my attention. My wife too has a job that isn't going anywhere (she is an RN). And although gas prices are gouging us, I haven't had to cut back on my cigars, yet. The only thing they are talking about with my job, is the city doesn't want to give the 3% raise they promised us this last contract. So, I truely feel for those looking at possible layoffs and pay cuts. I hope those BOTL's that are facing hard times, quickly recover and can resume the way of life they have gotten used to.
