To Nub or not to Nub?

Alright, so my humidor is STILL empty but hopefully Ill start filling it up soon. ( Stupid College Budget) Anyways...I have a whole lot of stuff I want to try. Shellie was kind enough to offer me my first Padron and I cant wait to try it, and hopefully more of them later on. Then theres the Don Pepin's, some RP's since I only have the VIntages, and of course some Fuentes. Stu recommended I try the 8-5-8 maddie so I'll try to see if my local JR carrys them.

On to the point, past all the brands I want to try in the future, and past all my intuition, I still have an itch to try a Nub cigar. Yes Im a newb and YES I know theyre more-so full bodied and they get bad reviews here and there but for some reason I feel like I want to try them. SOOO...my question is ; Is it really worth it or should I spend my money elsewhere (as ScottishSmoker recommended lol :chk) ?

I'll seek the insight of others to see if they can offer their opinions, but it really all comes down to trying it myself. Thus I have a Nub Cameroon 466 on the way in from CigarFox. I'll let you know.

PS Beware of Shellie's innocent offerings of Padrons.....

I talked to her about it and I think all I have on the way is a Padron 19-- and a Gurkha Regent. From your comment I feel like my talk wasnt adequate!

HOME DEPOT! Here I come...ready the sand bags!

I have only tried the Cameroons, which I liked, but I would rather put my money into other Oliva cigars. Give the series V a try and I think you will be happy you did. But if you have the room and money to burn give them a whirl.

:2

Full price for half a cigar is not a good deal no matter how good the cigar is.

Look around, try the regular lines from La Aurora, Padron...with La Aurora, you can buy a Robusto from their regular line in Cameroon for just over $2...a 6 1/2 x 50 Gran Corona for just under $3. In Maduro, about 20% more.

And they don't suck, I promise.

I have tried the Nub Habano and the Nub Connecticut. The Habano wasn't horrible but I am also regretting buying 10 of them from Joe as I am in no hurry to smoke any more. I should have stuck to my guns with my old motto which is to never buy cigars blind. Meaning don't buy a quantity of anything I have never tried or enjoyed previously.
I tried the Connecticut for the first time this past Friday on the way home from work. I forced myself to smoke a quarter of it and at that point I just couldn't torture myself anymore and tossed it out the window. I actually smiled when I watched it in the rear view mirror smash apart into a million pieces as it hit the street behind me. Yes, it was that bad! I still have a Cameroon to try and honestly, I am in no hurry to try that either just from my first two experiences. I will give the Habano the benefit of the doubt as I had a slight cold at the time when I tried it. My other complaint about both sticks is they had very loose draws which I really do not enjoy, especially on such a large ring cigar.
I personally feel the cigar is nothing more than a gimmick and won't stand the test of time. Before smoking the Nub I honestly felt that Oliva didn't make a bad stick. Well, I guess every brand has to have at least one stinker and IMHO the Nub is theirs.

Both CI and Cigar.com have 6 Nub samplers for 30 bucks, although CI appears to be sold out at the time. The Devil Sight has them as well at times. I have not pulled the trigger on these myself, but I'm with you in wanting to try them. Maybe soon.

To nub or not to nub? that is the question. Weather tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged gorrillas, at the cost of smoking half a cigar. aye there's the rub... weather tis tastier? sleep perchance to dream and hell give it a try if you want. You only live once.

Out of the 3 the NUB Connie is my favorite...
A warning to those who get the 6pk samplers.
The samplers are early production NUBs and are appearently a bit harsher than the regular production line NUBs are... At least in my exp. and from talking to NUB rep that seems to be the case...

I had a Nub cameroon and a habano and enjoyed them both. Might be a small cigar but it is packed with a lot of tobacco.

Cigarfox.com has buy 5 singles get 1 free. Nub is one of the options to choose. Could be a good way to try a Nub and also a few other cigars you have been interested in.

i actually liked the habano 460. the only down side for me was not being able to use my xikar to cut it, the guage was to big for it. but smoked very well. just smoke one and decide.

PM me your address :)

You had someone suggest you take a pass previously and yet you still posted this topic? That could only mean one of two things in my opinion, the first being you have already made up your mind and you are looking for validation. If you want to buy one just buy one and skip the validation part.

The Nubs have been hashed and rehashed for quality, so I won't rehash that....but "full bodied"? I have smoked two, the Cameroon was medium bodied at best, and the Habano was like smoking a Macanudo...mild as they get. :2

Are they still trying to find the sweet spot of the leaf?

Be patient...you'll eventually be gifted one...spend your money on something else that doesn't look as silly. :r

Are they still trying to find the sweet spot of the leaf?

Too funny, Ji!

I didn't want to spark the debate as to whether they are good or not, I think people know that opinions vary, and some know what my opinion is...Just didn't want anyone to be afraid of these cigars because they are so "full-bodied"...because they most certainly are not! :r

The Nub Habano wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that amazing. It was pretty average. Maybe they are still looking for that sweet spot!:gn
