We were hacked, darn it! - Sometime in the afternoon of August 8th, between the times of 1:53 and 7:00pm central time,
the Cigar Review Database at Top25Cigar was hacked. We are recovering the database from backup,
and verifying the program is no longer vulnerable. This may take up to 7 days.Thank you for your patience. We will post updates here.

:mad::mad::mad:

Why would someone in their right mind target this site. Makes me angry that a such a great website that is built on the shoulders of people's time and knowledge would be attacked like this. I hope everything is worked out and the identity of who did it can be found somehow.

:tpd: :mad: I really can't add anything to what was said. As a private host provider I do have empathy for those responsible to clean up this dam mess.

Yeah, I was mad. I'm new enough that I never even got to see it before it was hacked. I want to see some reviews of cigars, but thanks to hackers I can't :mad:

They did it because they could. That's all the reason some amoral people need.

Same here.

Seems like with the internet these days if it isn't spammers, it's hackers. :gn

And then on the lesser side of thing Trolls!
Trolls are scary!!!!!

Hackers are simply a waste of space. What exactly do they do this crap for? Just to say they can? Well I am willing to bet I can beat the crap out of the guy who did this....just to show I can of course...:D

Of course you can.

The guy's 31, and he still lives with his mom. He's whiter than the page I'm typing on and the only body weight he carries is from Twinkies and Dr Pepper (that his mom picks up for him).

Think of him when you remember that the best revenge is living well.

A lot of hacking now uses automated scripts to search for vulnerabilities. Vulnerable computers might be looted of valuable data (credit card numbers, etc.), or used to send spam email or host "phishing" sites, or to perpetrate denial-of-service attacks, etc. There's a lot of money at stake: phishing, spamming, pump & dump stock frauds, malware distribution, and extortion schemes, just to name a few. I'd wager that the typical malicious hacker is more likely to be involved in organized crime (the Russian mafia, for example) than to be some awkward loner in his mom's basement.

Actually, it's not a lot of hacking. It's the vast majority of it. I'd lay odds that > 98% of the "hackers" out there are just running software written by that guy eating twinkies in his mom's basement. (that guy, btw, still needs an a$$ whoopin)

But - yea. You're right. These days, it's unemployed KGB, Mafia, Terrorists, etc.

So what we have now is well armed script kiddies.
