Uh Oh...Beetles in Sabor Cubano

Well, it was bound to happen. I kept 2 desktops around after the Vino additions for singles - one for cheap singles, one for good singles. It regularly hits 80F, so I shouldn't be surprised. I just wish it were the cheap singles humidor.

It was a gifted Sabor Cubano - thanks Perkiles (I'll send you an e-mail at work to make sure you know to check your stash).

Interestingly, he made a perfect hole, but was found dead....He must have choked to death on such a good meal. Well, off to ingest some tobacco and protein and fire it up.

I'm feeling really lazy, but I probably should freeze everything in that humi (many CC and Taboo LRs, etc.)

Never saw that before thankfully. Is that just a result of being stored at too high a temperature? How would it form like that?

In a nutshell, tobacco beetle eggs are deposited in the tobacco plants as they grow. Spraying with insecticide and flash-freezing at the factory (if it's done) generally takes care of them, but under the right conditions of temperature and (I think) humidity, they can sometimes still hatch.

I know of only one instance where I've found beetles to have hatched in any of my cigars...before I got 'em (probably during shipment), and there were only two sticks with minor damage. (I still have 'em quarantined and keep watching for others.)

Way to not let the beetle ruin your smoking experience! Bet he added some good flavors :D The thing I hate is when you take the first initial pull on it and you get nothing but dust in your throat. (I think it's actually beetle poop!)

I tapped the foot as much as possible to get the poop out - and boy, he was not constipated as a ton of black micro-nuggets came out of the foot and hole.

Also, while smoking, the smoke appeared to all come out the hole (when the ash got down toward the hole) and made for a really cool smokestack or chimney effect.

Otherwise, the cigar tasted great:tu My first, but not last Sabor Cubano. Hopefully next time without the added passenger.

And that is why any sticks going into my main storage humidor hit the freezer first... Thanks for the great pics! :ss
