I remember reading a quote once (maybe it was Arturo Fuente himself) that said "Cigar smoking is a hobby, not a habit."
I smoke cigars because I like to, and I've never experienced any of the cravings and irritability that my cigarette-smoking friends seem to experience. The only "addiction" aspect of it, for me, is the spending and shopping part. I can spend hours looking through catalogs and at websites, trying to find the next new perfect lighter, cutter, humidor, case, etc.
I'm still fairly new to the hobby, and have not found one absolute favorite yet. I'm still playing around with sampler packs from various vendors.
My top three so far are:
As my profile says, I am a trained opera singer. I know plenty of singers who smoke, but most of us don't smoke when we're in a period of rehearsal or performance. I just had an audition last night, and I have to go back for a call back next week, so I'm kind of kicking myself, thinking, "Aw man, I probably shouldn't even buy some more cigars because I won't even be able to enjoy them until this gig is over."
Also, because I'm inexperienced, I sometimes smoke incorrectly and inhale too deeply and wind up with a cough for a day or so.
So, my fellow gorillas, in what situations would you tell yourselves "I'm intentionally not going to smoke for a while?"
