That stuff is Dy-No-Mite!!!

[Threadjack/ON]Hey, demiurgic where in HI are you? Not to many of us from HI on here.[Threadjack/OFF]

the humidor is divided into 2. cigars on one side / cedar divider and beads on another.
Beads are brand new.
beads inside panty hose, small pouches of one and half ounce each..
Okay, now we're getting somewhere.
At first you said five ounces, now you said three. Big difference there.
What are the interior dimensions of your humi?
Are the beads in the open air or are they covered with cigars?

The reason I ask these questions is to determine if you have enough beads and if they arranged so that they can do their job and to find out what condition the beads are in.
If you don't have enough, they won't get the job done. If they are covered with cigars, they can't do their job. If they are overwetted, they can't possibly work.
You mentioned their color...
When they arrived, did you add water to them? Could you take them out of the hose and get a good look? It might change their appearance.

So far, none of the things you are saying are adding up, nor do they make sense. Beads work the way they work. Nothing can change that.
Unless you can relay the information of the conditions around them accurately, there's no way to advise you how to fix the situation.

Start from the beginning and look at everything closely, because something is definately wrong, be it with the info you're providing or the humi or the condition of the beads.
It's very fixable, we just have to get to the bottom of it. :tu

Sorry for the ambiguity and conflicting info Scott.
I am out of it today. My head is pounding and that RP vintage did not help one bit.

Ok, I think I get what you are saying.
It's around 5 oz, like I originally said and I will inspect it carefully, color, position and all.
Thanks Doctor.
Demi

If the situation is really dire, you could put a shot glass of DampRid in the humidor. That stuff will absorb as much moisture as you can give it. Most hardware stores carry this stuff.

BINGO!! good advice taltos. Thought of it this morning, and after reading it here, now I'm sure.

I have to agree with Gryphs62. I have had Shilala beads in my vinotemp for about two and a half months and haven't even had to put the container of water in to boost them since the vino stabilized.:tu

Shilala's beads are great...my cooler has been reading 65% since I got them 2 1/2 months ago!:tu

Do not have to wet his beads either. If humidity drops, put sponge of distilled H2O in and the beads absorb it.

Have not tried heartfelt, so I cannot compare the two.

I've never had to add water since day one, but my winadors are as tight as tight gets. The beads have such an incredibly huge capacity for holding water that it takes a huge amount of laden air to raise their equilibrium.
That's why it takes so many days to raise their RH when you want to. :tu

Silica beads. The kind that you'll find in electronics boxes, shoe boxes etc. It usually says "Not for human consumption" on the bag... :)

Shilala, received the beads today. Thank you very much.
One question: Since the beads are so fine, is it normal to see them leak through the bag?

I hope to report in a week that these suck the greatest :ss

I try to get all the bead dust out of the beads before I make bags.
It's impossible.
The fallout diminishes over time. Mine have pretty much completely stopped leaking after about 6 months.

Thats good to know, as I have been wondering if they would stop leaking.

Thanks for answering that Scott.:tu

I wish you could see the histrionics I go through to get the dust and smalls out of a batch of beads before I make the bags.
I use a great big stainless kettle and eight or ten 2 gallon rubbermaid bowls.
I wait until it's nice and windy out and pour the beads slowly from over my head into the rubbermaid bowls.
I keep doing it until I'm exhausted.
More than once a neighbor has said "What the hell are you doing???" :D
It gets a lot of the dust out, but not all of it.
I've often wondered if it was best to suggest that guys disturb the bags less or disturb them more so that it gets over with quicker.

What I can tell you for certain is that it's worn me down to where I don't even see the beads anymore. :r
