Who first introduced you to premium cigars?

My father in law first piqued my interested, although he smoked JR Alts at the time. Since then even HE has started diving into the more premium smokes since retiring.

In the early 80s I would gram a smoke from the liquor store display (I don't remember what kind) and smoke it in my truck or on the weekend. Then, while flying in an airplane I read a Fortune magazine "Best of" article about cigars. I remember they mentioned Macanudo, Partagas and Davidoff, which I tried. There was a big difference in these cigars from the cheapies I was smoking before.

I was completing a big project with a buddy of mine (Paul) and the company was sold out from under us. Having been there for 14+ years my Paul gave me a premium cigar sort of a going away gift. Up to that point I had never had one. I enjoyed the smoke but over the next 6 - months I started to try other cigars and found out quickly the ones I liked and the ones to leave alone. That was 11 years ago and I have matured my pallet to the point that I enjoy a medium to full flavored cigar, mostly on the weekend or at a herf. (see you this weekend)!:D

Thanks, Brian... looking forward to catching up with everybody from the LexHerf tomorrow.
Should be a blast! :ss

I didn't smoke at all... Then I expressed interest to a friend of mine who smoked, that I'd like to come try a cigar with him sometime... Well, before i knew it, I had a 5 pack of premiums in my mailbox from him... It was downhill from there.. Then I bought a humi, and smokes... and more smokes, and more smokes.. then the hinges on my humi broke (musta been opening it up to check the smokes too much :r ) So I bought another one.... And I have a cooler in my buildup thats gonna be converted soon..

A guy on my fire department had a herfador, every stand-by we would do for fireworks and stuff like that he had cigars for everyone.

i had a boss that would have one at lunch time, and i would go out with him to discuss work and other things. after a few times, i was curious and ordered a box of Montesino Diplomaticos maduros. i was then hooked. his name is chris romano, and i am forever in his debt.

I got into them when I was stationed in Korea. My buddy used to always buy me a Monti 2 when we would go drinking. Well I started buying my own cigars shortly after that, mostly Churchills and Cohibas. :r

I got out of cigars for a few years and back into them, and I back into them and here I am.

I think my granddad had the most influence on me. When he smoked a cigar, it looked as if the cigar tasted like honey. I guess just the way he carried himself made it appear that way. I didn't get into buying my own till college in 1991. I lost a large collection to a roommate, and got back into the hobby seriously about 1 1/2 years ago.

smoked them for while in my youth, but dropped them after a short time. Years later a good friend of mine slid down the slope and handed me a monte #4 and a padron 3000. Brought me right back into the fold.
Happiness ensued.

A good friend of mine who use to work for Cisco and traveled overseas regularly would bring Monte's and Cohiba's to our 49er tailgate parties.
Then about a year ago my boss gave me a Punch Rare Corojo and I was pushed down the NC slope.:ss

After about a month at CS sampling many different great smokes. Including a fine sampler put together by Sam(Guitarman S.T.) :tuI found a mysterious thread call Blind Tasting. I recieved an unbanded fiver from 4WheelVFR, among them were 3 aged ISOM's.:hn

These are the people I blame for my current predicament. :cb3 full 150ct humis, 1 full 50qt cooler and 1 full Vinotemp. And I only have another 2 boxes of ISOM's on the way and another CFO wheel. OMG someone take my CC away!:chk:chk:chk

Just send you credit card to me. I will make sure you do not make any more purchases that you know about!:r

I inherited my late father-in-laws remaining cigars (mostly machine-made Cubans) after he passed away unexpectedly. He only had a stick a few times a year, and I knew nothing about storing or humidification or anything, I just thawed one out every now and then and had one! Yummy, huh?

It was my brother, Svillekid, who gave me a real shove, gave me a humidor and some beads, loaded me down with sticks, turned me onto CS, Cbid, etc. He got an assist from Ninja Vanish, his son and my nephew. So in this case, the son corrupted the father who corrupted the uncle...

Like many people I was first introduced to cigars in high school. I mainly smoked Black & Milds then and some Phillies too. After high school I just gave up cigars and it wasn't until years later a good friend of mine, Tim introduced me to premium cigars. Ever few months he'd introduce me to something new. Finally I decided to stop being cheap and buy my own. That's about the time I discovered CS, just by change one day while online looking for more info about cigars. That's the start of things, the rest is still being written.

I starting buying a lot of samplers and Gurkhas from CI a little over a year ago if that counts. The person who introduced me to cigars mainly smoked gas station cigars so they were a huge step up. CS as a whole introduced to truly good and premium cigars. Thanks guys!

Doh! :tpd::chk:chk:chk

Bobarian has been a huge influence on my new found cigar experience!!! He is very generous. I like to sit next to him at Herfs because he won't let you smoke what you brought. He always digs into his herfidor and says, "Here, try this!". What a great guy!!!:tu

Ratter's is the same way!!! Generous through and through!!!:tu

Almost 2 years ago, I quit smoking cigarettes, and my future father in law told me to try a cigar. I went into his humidor, and grabbed me a cigarillo..and I never looked back.
