Why Robustos?

Robusto is my favorite size so far...seems to be a good medium. A larger ring guage helps cool down the smoke, which I like. I just smoked a Famous Nicaraguan 1000 Robusto, and the draw was a tad on the loose side so It only lasted about an hour. The time a cigar takes to smoke depends on a multitude of things: RG, length, draw, etc.

Robustos are my favorites as well. I find that most of the cigars I enjoy taste best in a 50+ ring. I also like that they seem to smoke cooler than smaller RG sticks. Plus, I rarely want to devote 2 hours to a smoke, so a robusto fits the bill.

I would think that the reason samplers are often composed of robustos is a combination of them being less expensive, and a popular size.
