Maturing Primate
Hey chaps. I'm wondering, has anyone ever been in the situation where you get criticism from the "cigarette smokers" you might know? I remember about a year ago, several friends who I know who smoke cigarettes criticised me for smoking cigars, complained about the smell, and appeared to be a little miffed that I smoked them.

They would always say to me "if you want to smoke, you know, why don't you just smoke cigarettes? Why do you smoke cigars?" They could never seem to accept or understand my reasoning behind it and would always try and tell me a cigar is no different to a cigarette.....when infact as we all know there is a WORLD of difference between the two, both in taste and especially quality.

I remember at one christmas party, there were about 6 of us sitting in a booth table in the pub , and 4 of my friends were smoking. So, I pull out this large H.Upmann Monarch cigar, take it out of its tube and proceed to cut and light it up. And instantly become the envy of my fellow smokers. Quite interesting that they have had a moan about cigar smoking and as soon as I light up and start smoking in front of them, they ALL want to have a go, practically begging me to let them have a drag. :)

Being a kind friend, I let each of them have a try, only for them all bar one of my friends to turn around then and complain that the taste of the smoke even without inhaling is too strong. *sigh* You can never please some people I guess.

But it made me wonder, are some cigarette smokers jealous of our cigars maybe?

Thoughts anyone? :tu

I'm amazed at the number of times cigarette smokes cough and gag at my cigar smoke. All too often, I've been asked to put my cigar out. I've also been told by some cigarette smokes that it was rude of me to expose them to the noxious fumes. Perhaps you have more understanding friends than I do

More understanding?? Perhaps. But it did annoy me a little that they were cheeky to try and suggest that a cigarette is exactly the same smoking experience as a cigar. Stupidity at work there folks.

Cigarette's are cheap, made by the hundreds and thousands a day in their machine made factories and filled with shite. Cigars on the other hand, are hand rolled, of exceptional quality, a joy to smoke, and PURE tobacco is used to fill them :) Only one of my friends after trying my cigar looked at me, smiling like a 5 year old and said "that's the stuff aint it, I can see why you like them" hahaha :ss

I agree with you that the cigarette smokers don't know a good hand rolled all natural tobacco cigar when they smoke one. In fact I know some who have taken a drag off of my cigar and they tried to inhale and nearly coughed their head off. It amuses me when they say that it is just too strong when in fact they do not know how to enjoy the fine quality of a cigar.

Cheers
:D

Tell them to enjoy their Mother Liquor and over 300 added chemicals, stems, and floor sweepings that cigarettes are laced with. :r

Couldn't have put it better myself :) But I do agree with the previous poster also, cigarette smokers are so used to inhaling that even when I say "DON'T inhale or else you'll get a nasty suprise"......well, they go ahead and inhale and have a coughing fit for the next 10 minutes or so. Or as I said before, even if they dont inhale, they screw up their noses and bitch and complain about it being too strong. :pp

Here is a good one i tell them.I say my idle George Burns lived to be 100 years old smoking cigars daily, while their aunt Francis lived 65 years with the last 10 years of her life on a ventilator from smoking cigarettes for 30 years.:r

To the unenlightened. tobacco is tobacco. However, one thing that being a cigar lover (and by extension, a student of the craft) has taught me is that there is a world of difference even between cigars in what goes into them, and each one has its own unique taste and feel. Cigarettes, on the other hand, don't seem to differ all that much from one to another.

I'll stick to the stogies, thanks.

Been told by more than one Marlboro chain-smoker that my cigar smelled bad, the smoke was giving them a headache, that I was rude to smoke it in a club. I can't type on a public forum what I told them.

I have had some cigarette smokers give me dirty looks, and I responded by taking some big puffs and blowing it their direction. I don't look at them crosseyed for spreading their noxious smoke around to all the bystanders. I also have to travel with my coworkers from time to time, and they always say I am smoking an "Old Fogie Stogie". They don't complain they just don't understand. I don't care what anybody says or does, I am going to enjoy my cigar, and if somebody doesn't like it, TOO BAD.

Cigarette smokers can't handle the Vitamin N in cigars either.

In general, you're right. But there are exceptions. A friend of mine, a life time cigarette smoker, who I exposed to cigars back in 90s, is inhaling the hell out of his smokes. A mutual friend of ours and I are simply shaking our heads when we smoke together, I still can't figure out how one can handle all that nicotine. We're talking at least medium body smokes and he actually likes/buys smaller CC vitolas (which are usually stronger than larger RG). I've seen other cigarette smokers inhale, when they ask to taste (I usually light up after a soccer game), and I smoke full bodied cigar for the most part.

Trust me, I am stumped and can't figure this out.

I seldom smoke in public.(In Cali, there arent many places you can light up)
But when I do, if there are no children present and I am in an open space where it is legal, I do not feel the need to justify my cigar smoking to anyone.

I try to keep as quiet as possible. For me it's one thing when a non-smoker walks by when I smoke outside and gives a faux-cough or complains, but when someone smoking a cigarette does this I really have to dig deep not to laugh out loud or say something. I stay away from the need to justify my smoking to anyone.

On the other hand, I think it is presumptuous of me to tell someone the tobacco they are smoking is inferior or they just don't understand cigars, or that they are addicts. I think we are all BOTL and in these anti-smoking times should stand united. :2

I get a few dirty looks here and there or here some muttering as people on campus walk by, cigarettes in hand. People I know are don't care much, I would say the majority are even enthusiastic to try it, but a couple of my friends call me the 'old man' when they see me smoking.

Well, as far as actual quality and purity cigarettes are inferior, but I get what you're saying and I agree. Live and let live.

Imo alot of people judge cigars badly due to the fact most of them have only come into contact with "buy anywhere" cheap cigars like "hamlets" etc.
Most people are surprised when they smell a "real" cigar and realize they dont all smell the same.:D

I politely tell them I am smoking my cigar to cover up the noxious fumes from all the cigarettes with their stale tabacco and chemical smell.

I make it easy on my self and smoke cigars in like company, I enjoy them more when I am at a herf, or with other cigar buddies, then with a cranky few.
