Do you still use CBID ?

What the hell happened to cbid ? It used to be a cigar auction meaning you could get cigars for about 40-50 % off reg. price. Now some are paying regular price plus 20-40 % over, and that sux because it raises the bet big time.

I haven't placed a bit in a long time for precisely this reason.

You can still get some pretty good deals on c-bid. The more rare smokes (Opus X, sharks, etc.) go for ridiculous amounts though. As more and more people become aware of the site deals will be harder and harder to come by.

there are still deals to be had, just not like there were > a year ago. If you're looking for anthing with a big name on it (Fuente, Ashton, etc), you're out of luck.

I can still find some stuff there and beat online prices by maybe 10%.
It's tight though.
A lot of decent stuff is still darn near free. Like Liga's, for instance.
I guess it's all about what you like. I've even gotten some good deals on big ticket stuff, but usually have to accept a different vitola than I was looking for.

Agree that there are still good buys to be had, but it depends on what you are looking for and what the general competition happens to be for that brand. It is commong for a 5 pack of something hover around $7, then hit a spike where you don't find it under $13 for a few weeks, then drop down to $7 again. Patience is the key... and also the biggest challenge.

I buy cheaper, easy to find stuff on cbid, especially 5 vegas A's and Gold's. I don't really pay as much attention to it as I used to because I've really slacked off on acquiring more cigars since I have enough to last me several years as it is.

I buy all my daily smokes there. There are smokes I will not pay more than a buck for so I set the max bid at $5 for a five pack and $20 or less for a box or bundle of 20. I loose 9 out of 10 times but manage to win enough to keep me in stock of the daily dollar smokes.

Some examples are:

5 Vegas Panatela
Fonseca Habana Selección Cadetes
Vegas de Fonseca Sobrinos
Cu-Avana Maduro Series Robusto
Cu-Avana Belicoso
Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Corona Grande
Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Robusto Natural
Fire by Indian Tabac Double Corona Maduro
Sol Cubano Maduro Toro
Sol Cubano by Oliva Sumatra Toro
Tierra del Sol by Perdomo Churchill Maduro

A few others I will pay up to $1.40 so I set the max a $7

Weekend or evening smokes I try to keep under $3 each or just buy them from the local B&M. What kills me is the swings on the bigger names. I like the Gurkha Legend '8 Years Aged' Robusto, but hate paying more than about $2.50 a stick.

I bought where I highlighted in red.

I just set my high bid and wait till I win.

Got some coming next week :tu :cb :tu

Nope don't use it much anymore. They either don't have the cigars I'm looking to buy or the cigars I'm looking to buy are at prices that aren't very competitive.

Only when I am looking for something in particular. I scored most of the things I have now, including the humidor they sit in for about 75% or less of the best price I could find online. Also, a big fan of the specials, can get some good deals off those too. :tu

Honestly, I've more or less stopped buying period. The rare exceptions come along, like really good limited editions, Taboo Twists, etc etc.

Working at a B&M has also kinda nullified my spending. I'm smoking less of my own stock, so I don't have room to buy stock.

I'll bid on some of their special high-quantity deals but because of one bad night, I avoid just browsing and bidding on things. If I want something specific, I'll hit up a reputable vendor or check my local B&M. The FS/FT forum keeps me supplied with more than enough random stuff at great prices to keep me happy.

I still use it fairly often but only if I've checked around for price comparisons first. But yeah, I know what you're saying it can get really bad, whether I just go overboard or people are just paying way too much. But it's still a great place to go to test drive a new stick.

I just received my shipment of last week's bids today:
20 Padilla Obsidians $39.95
15 Rocky Patel Vintage 1990 Seconds Torpedos $31.00
Shipping $6.00
Total for 35 quality smokes: $77.00, or $2.20@
Do I still use CBid? H3ll Yes!!

But I DO agree with you that most of the bids are WAY higher than they used to be. I probably lost 20 auctions over the same time period because of overzealous nitwits. Patience & tenacity are the keys.
I refuse to bid more than 2/3 the lowest retail I can find.

On the bright side, I'm not buying nearly the amount of smokes I was at this time last year or the year before. I'm probably down to 800 or 900 smokes now!:ss

I'm using CBid all the time right now. I'm trying to build a collection I can smoke now and age at the same time, starting from scratch. I bought the Padilla Obsidian bundle, and have bought a bunch of Rocky Patel, Gurkha, 5 Vegas, Fonseca, Padron, and Romeo y Julieta cigars, all for under $3 a stick.

Then again, I've also been buying Padron and A. Fuente cigars from Taboo. So far, the Hemingway Short Story is probably my favorite cigar, and the auctions on CBid ended HIGH but the cigars were very reasonable at Taboo (thanks to the 33% off coupon!).

dont use too much anymore, i find that if you wait and keep an eye out for the daily deal from joe with the free shipping you come out ahead most times.:cb
