Humidification Beads: FAQs

what about mold? Should i be concerned about mold getting on the beads?

I have never heard of mold growing on the beads. If it is happening it is probably not good for them, the mold spores will most likely plug the pores of the beads.

I just recived my 65% beads!!! I put a little water in the tube because my humidor was running about 59%. Is this the right method to get the humdity up?

Comments on the 65's? They rock. Tried to go cheap with Kat Krystals but they didn't work for sh%t in my Wine-a-dor. If someone says there's no difference, they have obviously never fussed with a humidor.

Within 3 days of putting in the beads the RH stabilized at 65%. Magic.

That's the way to do it.

I have to say, every time I read a story about cat litter or potting soil crystals I think of the poor cigars that are about to die an ugly death.

If the Smithsonian and The US National Archives use the same beads I sell there must be a difference.

How long should it take for it to even out?
All my beads are clear and I have the tube in the middle of my humidor.
My digital hygro is reading 59%

Two questions;

How seasoned was the humi in the first place?

Are you sure of the accuracy of your hygrometer?

Fairly good.
YES, its digital. I did some test and they were perfect.

I use beads that I got from Heartfelt and they work like champs. I have had no problems with mine.

Do a salt test calibration of your hydrometer. Do a light test of your humidor. Also make sure you're using distilled water on the beads. I'm fairly certain in this situation that the problem is something other than the beads.

No magic in these beads will compensate for a humidor that needs seasoning and time to stabilize.

Grim -- How old is your humidor and how long have you been treating it?
