Mexican Cigars

I think the Partagas uses a mexican binder, rather than filler.

I like the Partagas flavor, and I have wondered if it was due to the mexican leaf, so I've been looking to try some mexican sticks, too. Besides Te-Amo, I know there is Tabamex, as well.

Filler is Dominican and Mexican. Binder is Mexican.

Did a search and really didnt turn up anything. What are some decent-good Mexican brands to look out for?

Thanks

I have tried a few of them. They are a love or hate kind of cigar, but I do like em. This came up to be quite a long post, hope it can help out.

Te Amo Aniversario - These are good. very earthy flavor, they can lost a little flavor sometimes but I havent found one that was completly flavor less throughout the whole cigar. But even though they are ok.

Te Amo Gran Reserva - These are my favorites in the Te Amo line. They also are earthy, but i have found some sweet undertones. Not Honey sweet or infused sweet, but that slight sweet flavor, that you can still smell on your hands after smoking. Very good IMHO.

Te Amo Vintage '99 - I havent smoked a lot of these. I remeber them to be ok, but i dont exactly recall the exact flavor or nuances i found in it.

Te Amo regular line - These IMHO very consistant in flavor. Not too complex, very earthy and grassy. If you like it, you wont probably go wrong. But if you try a few and it is not your cigar, I just probably wouldnt bother. as said before, good working cigar.

Aromas de San Andres - I have tried a few of these cigars, and have had both experiences. In one occasion the cigar was pretty good, very nice sweet flavors, and a nice wood aroma. Very good. But also in one occasion, I tried one that was ok, but the flavor was more acrid, even sour like. You could tell that it could become a good cigar like the other one, but maybe it was still too fresh or overhumidified. but anyway, it was only 1 time that i had a bad experience and several good ones.

San Andreas - These cigar I didnt like very much, it was ok for the price but it was not very exceptional. the flavor wasnt awful but it was pretty plain. I dont recomend it very much.

Monte Cristo(Mexico) - Yes there is a mexican Monte Cristo brand. I have had a few. They are not as expensive as the cuban or Dominican brand, but they are also not the cheapest mexican cigar. they are a mild tasting cigar. been a while since I smoked one, but I remember to be a nice relaxing cigar. it also had a nice sweet aroma, and it is not pretty strong on nicotine content. You feel it working in the system, but it doesnt kick your ass. I recomend it but more for beginner smokers.

Santa Clara - Well I cant say much about this one, since the one I tried was a little bit on the dry side (a buddy of mine bought it and he didnt have a humi to keep it on). It had some potential but the one I smoked lacked some flavor. At least it didnt taste bad, it just didnt taste hahaha. Anyway, I might give it another shot later on.

Matacan - I didnt have a very good experience with this one. It had an acrid flavor I didnt like very much. It went from that and then to lose all of the flavor. and also when i was about 1/3 into it, it started unraveling and made the smoking experience even more bad. They are not very expensive so i didnt expect much. But anyway I wouldnt buy them again.

Sihuapan - I got these cigars from a business trip my mother made to Veracruz, Mexico. This brand still is somewhat small, I dont know if they have International reach, but looks like they are growing. The cigars are ok, they also have a very grassy taste (something very common on mexican cigars), and as the box was bought directly from the manufacturer, it seems as they could use some resting to develop more the cigar. I have just smoked a few, to see how they are, and I am saving the rest to see how they change. At least for a while.

Well im done, at least from the ones i remember, hope this can help you out on what to search. :w

Carlos.

I finally got around to watching Prizzi's Honor a couple of months ago. This is a gangster film starring Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner made in 1985, which, it turns out, has aged very badly.

One of Don Corrado's son's, Dominic I think, is a keen cigar smoker and I remember in one scene, his going-away party, he is presented with a couple of cases of cigars, "his favorite, Mexican."

I couldn't tell you what brand they were, and I'm not sure why such a big deal was made out of the fact that they were Mexican in the movie, although Dominic was not a particularly impressive character and it's possible that this detail was supposed to emphasize that he was, what we might most sympathetically describe as, "a simple man with simple tastes."

The Mexican wrappers (maduros) are outstanding!

If you're in the market for an el-cheapo bundle, grab a 25-pack op El Mejor Espresso's on C-Bid.... Let them sit for a few months... And you wil be DELIGHTED come Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

The El Mejor Espresso is one of my favorites. I'm trying to age a bundle now but they are tempting.
