Are the opus x's worth it?

I love them. They are one of my favorite smokes if you can let them sit. I'm smoking the ones from December of last year now and they are great. I would buy one for that price and maybe look elsewhere (internet) to stock up. Or, maybe work a trade with some of these fine BOTL's. Enjoy! :ss

Lets take the price out of it. I very rarely think about the price of cigars other than when I'm writing reviews. I smoke DCM's and 64's a lot and I think if you find cigars you like then buy em and smoke em cost be damned. Life is too short to spend anytime settling if you dont have too.

I've smoked one Opus X and it was not very good to me price aside. It may have really been because after all the hype I was expecting soemthing fabulous like a genie to come out of the smoke and give me a beer and offer her mind bendingly nubile body to calm me before I got my three wishes. When none of this happened I was understandably upset. Not only that I was still fairly young in my cigar career and it was both too powerful for me and in my opinion tasted awful.

Of course this has not stopped me from investing in almost 2 boxes. I'm currently hoping that in 18-24 months when i revist these my opinion will have changed.

In any event as I said life is too short. the very fact your pursueing the question means you have an interest so just go get yourself one and make the most of it.

My first Opus X was saved for a backpacking trip in the Smoky Mountains. I paid $25 for it and it was worth every penny.

After that very first one however I haven't paid more than MSRP for one. Opus X cigars are worth their set price. Unfortunately many stores charge double MSRP or more. When I find them for sale at the normal price I buy them..

If you haven't had one yet I don't think you are wasting your money by paying that, however you are also encouraging that bad pricing practice by buying one. I can't fault you however as I did it myself.

How is that for a mixed answer?? :tu

Ok so I have yet to even see these at my B&M's,given I only have 2 near me,but still, they are pretty well stocked.Anyways,I keep reading reviews about them and seeing people searching for them,my question is,are they worth it? Is it a nice enough stick to spend 20+ plus bucks on?My trigger finger has been itching to place an order on a few singles,or a 5 pack. lol Any input?

Try one and see what you think! :ss

Price is relative. If you are an AF fan then it may be worth getting one. Only you can answer that question! As has been stated many times before, we all have different tastes, sometimes what you find to be an outstanding cigar at any price is another man's Kuba Kuba. :)

IMHO I think they are great smokes.
I just can't justify paying double and triple the MSRP. I'd guess that the B&M's pricing them this high are not "official" Fuente dealers. They've had to buy them from a dealer and need to mark them up that high to make a profit.
My advice would be to continue the search, cultivate a relationship with someone who's local B&M sells them at MSRP and do a trade or have them purchase them for you.
You wouldn't pay double or triple for a Punch would you?
If you do find some, put some away for a long time for a special occasion.
They age wonderfully.
Good Luck

Fuente prices the Opus line fairly. The recent small price increase was the first in many years. The Opus line may be limited in distribution, but it is not so rare as to command 100% or 200% markups over MSRP. Find out how much the manufacturer thinks you should pay before you buy, and then decide how much the cigars are worth to you.

My answer to this question is the same as it always is......after 5-7 years they are worth the MSRP you should pay. Just hard to find them that old unless you want to age them yourself and for most folks that's tying up a lot of money for a long time.

IMHO....not worth spending $20+ on. It was an OK smoke, but nothing to rave about. But like I said IMO, everybody has different tastes, personally I love Maduros....to each his own. :2

Well i will look around, and try and find some for a decent price. Local places are over charging a ton. did have one fellow BOTL offer to send me one,but I had to decline. Just really wanted to ask opinions not fish for a freebie :) Thanks for all the input everyone.Ill just add this one to my List to try,lol its a big one,and seems to keep growing day by day,but I'll knock it out sooner or later.

You're talking about Heroes & Legacies, and Habana House, right? Pipe World also carries them from time to time, but you have to ask them 'cos they often won't put them out and like H&L & HH, they'll limit the number you can buy. H&L generally has the best price in town on them but yeah, they're quite a bit above MSRP.

You may be able to find some online, but I'd say just pull the trigger on one and get off the pot :ss If you like it then it's $$ well spent; if you don't, then you'll have removed all doubt and know to avoid them unless you come across them at a better price point.

If you want to wait a while, H&L typically gets in a bumper crop of Opus around the holidays, so the smaller vitolas (read--less $$) are more readily available.

This is all just :2 from another Austinite who's combed this town looking for good deals...before he hit the slope, that is :D

EDIT: forgot to mention that there's a group of BOTLs who get together on Sunday afternoons; we're not meeting this Sunday, but in a couple weeks we'll meet up and I'd be happy to trade you an Opus for something (I have quite a few lying around).

In my opinion they are a great smoke.
I have smoked a few "new" ones and thought they were very good (leaning towards the Belicoso xXx "Power Ranger") I am now startingto smoke 3-4 year old OpusX's gifted to me and they are VERY VERY Good.
IMHO a completely different smoke all together. They mellow out wonderfully.

Try finding MSRP....... or.....try PMing me your Address.

I'll see what I can do.

I like them, they are currently my favorite smoke, but I happen to think the Forbidden X is better..

Never had an Opus...I think my wife would kill me if I spent that much on a single stogie :ss
In fact, I've only had one Fuente, and I didn't care for it.
