I pretty much always spit, some more than other, especially if I find myself smoking too fast. I don't spit too much when I have a drink with me though. It's better to spit than swallow your saliva while smoking.

I've done that before, my throat would be scratchy and I'd be coughing up and blowing out thick yellowish snot. Drink lots of water, hock up a few loogys(sp) and spit them out as well as blow them out of your nose if you feel that way too. You'll get over it in less than a week, I usually do.
